Ripe

2013

This body of work is a photographic research which relies on typology and real materials- skin, light, hair, physical presence and time. The Work revolves around the archetypes of human flesh and skin, which, specifically in this case, are female.
My point of departure grew out of mythic terms and expressions that are common in English folklore, which connect women and fruit together  (such as "strawberry blonde", "black cherry" etc) . All expressions are intuitively charged with visual themes and sexual connotations, based on how the specific term is used in our culture and what "type" of woman it intends to describe.

The Work was created  through "invention" of different kinds of  feminine species.  These were then divided into sub strains arising from four expressions: strawberry blonde, black cherry, blood orange and white flesh peach.

The photographs are divided into three main types- consisting of action, material and time. The first group is full body shots, with remnants of the action created by the characters (indicated by their hands), The second group is close-ups, generated under artificial light, highlighting the signs of time before photographed, as a kind of "freezing" somewhat violent act, This is based on a thought- one cannot preserve beauty without the experience of death, without losing vitality. The third group is a collection of fleshy jam jars, which are in a way, an extract of the women photographed.
